Why Other Moves Fail

The traps: Natural developing moves like Nc3 are usually good, but here they are mistakes because they allow Black to fix their structure. If you don't take the e5 now, Black will play d6 or Bd6, shielding their King and justifying their awkward pawn setup.

How To Find The Only Good Move

Step 1 — Recognize the critical moment: Whenever your opponent moves a pawn near their King (like f6), look for immediate tactical punishments. The diagonal to the King is now a highway for your pieces.

Step 2 — Eliminate the traps: Ask yourself: "If I develop normally, does Black get to breathe?" In this case, yes. Developing the c3 or e3 gives Black the one tempo they need to protect their loose Knight.

Step 3 — Verify the solution: Nxe5 Ne7 Nf3 d5 Nc3 By trading and retreating, you leave Black with a ruined kingside and a massive lead in development.
